Man Don’t They Grow Fast
(for Wanda)
I watched the child that once was me
Bouncing and gurgling on Daddy’s knee
She smiled and held one finger tight
Man that was a night…oh what a night
I watched her stumble, stagger and fall
Then climb back up no more to crawl
She held out her hands to reach for mine
Man, that was sweet…was pure sunshine
I held her hand at the school bus stop
As she climbed the steps my heart did drop
She smiled back at me said it’s okay Dad
Man, that to me was sad…it sure was sad
She introduced me to a gangly young man
She said…can I go with him, please say I can
I smiled a phony smile and shook his hand
Man, I wanted to say no…can you understand
I walked her down the longest aisle that day
A fairy princess in white for her vows to say
Teardrops on my cheeks and a Dad’s heavy sigh
Man, my little girl grew…grew in the blink of an eye
Make me cry will you? Beautiful daughter and granddaughter.

Kathy

You have a beautiful daughter, and your little granddaughter is a cutie-pie! You are the proud daddy, good on you! Very well done; bravo!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D
Outstanding tribute to your daughter! Very well written poetry, moving through the stages of your daughters life. Beautiful pic of Wanda and baby. No matter how old your children get they are still our babies to us. EXCELLENT, my friend.
Many Blessings,
~Linda
You've penned a winner here. Sitting here with a tear in my eye, you move me with your memories and clever poem, which flows like a song. Yes. Well done!
