A Lamb In Wolve’s Clothing

They walk by the tracks

He in his uniform of war

He’s leaving tomorrow

Like brave others before

She holds tight his hand

Feels the strength of his arm

Hoping this simple touch

Will protect him from harm

They stop by the tracks

Where a young baby lamb

Stands tangled in brambles

In a wee bit of a jam

The soldier bends down

Strokes the black wool

Frees the young animal

With a tug and a pull

As he rises to his bride

That little lamb in one arm

She holds back the tears

Loving his caring charm

The frontlines of Europe

In a strange foreign land

He tells her don’t worry

And once more takes her hand

“When the battles are over

and freedoms once more

I’ll be home to your arms

of that you can be sure.

Your love will protect me

And my faith in the Lord,

I’ll come back safe and sound

I give you my word!”

Three long years later

By the same railway tracks

Arms melded together

He finally came back

They stop by the pasture

To see an old black sheep

“I gave you my word

when you gave me your heart

I’m yours now forever,

we never will part…”
