Hospital Blahs…

By Fee

In here the lights are never turned off

Dimmed but just enough that I can’t sleep

These beds so narrow I’m afraid to move

Nurses making rounds quietly creep

I close my eyes but the white noise pervades

Alarms, bells buzzers, bleeps and blips

So many wires hooked up to my chest

And a hose connects me to an IV drips

A nurse sweetly asks me can’t I sleep

Would I like a little pill to “Bye Bye Land”

Her smile melts my anger but I turn her down

It’s the sleep I fear that she don’t understand

Tests tomorrow so till then just rest your mind

This old heart of mine is aching all the time

Each time I end up back here in these beds

I wonder if I’ll see another morning shine…

Now a nurse shakes me and turns on a light

Mr Perry we need to take your blood work

Needles prod and she finally finds a vein

And because I flinched she thinks that I’m a jerk

Finally they tell me I am getting released

With Doctors’ letters, pills and dirty clothes

Hurry down the hall before they change their mind

I’m free again to write my wicked words of prose…

Fee,
I'm glad you're back home and doing well. Heart problems are not easy to deal with. We missed you while you were gone. My Mother is a nurse in ICU/CCU and sees heart patients quite a bit. She works nightshift and tries not to disturb her patients, but some things need done in the name of better health. She's been in the profession 30 years, this year, all at the bedside.

Get well soon,
Jill

Nurses can be sweet tempered but they see too much sickness; I think they become immune to what the patient is actually going through. I was just in for four shots in the SR/and facet joints in my back, plus an epidural of Cortisone. I couldn't walk by myself when they released me, but they were telling me to have a nice day...lol. How would they feel after 5 dangerous shots in the back? Your situation is much more serious, Fee. I can't imagine the thoughts you must be having. Your last poem expresses some of them beautifully, but you still must feel alone with this. I'm glad you have writing to share your most recent experience. I hope you can get some rest. Stay strong, stay healthy. Love and Hugs~
