Poem Artwork

Page After Page

By: Felix L. Perry

The gifts are now scattered

The lights not so bright

Tired and defeated

I sit here tonight

Alone with no explanation

Just a sad heavy heart

A New Year approaches

Lost before I start

Tonight I walked on the shore

As the sun said goodbye

The breakers just laughed

At my weary old sigh

Now at this phosphorous screen

I try some sense to make

Why I feel so damn empty

More dead than awake

I feel too old for a rebirth

Too young for old age

Seems I’m just passing time

Page after page

Perhaps in the oblivion of sleep

I’ll find strength anew

Or perhaps I’ll find the courage

To do what I must do…

Fee,
Each year that passes seems to smother the excitement, in my opinion. I slept through the midnight marker this year. This poem is deeply reflective and a bit dark at its end. The last line leaves me wondering. Hope the new year is being kind to you:)

A good nights sleep and a few extra days, and you will be running out in the yard with your Grandkids in the snow encapulated shade!

Well, you made me realize where I am in time. But I am in the process of excepting that my fun and joy now comes from Grandkids, cooking sunday dinners for the grown up kids and their kids, giving advice to the 14 year old granddaughter, and trying to answer all those questions from the 2 year old,( who by the way was born on his dad's birthday. So, my grandson will be 3 and my son will be 34!, on New Years day!.....in otherwords, Fee, I feel your aches and pains!(:

Such seasoned thoughts here, Pops, and that ache in the heart and bones is tangible. Bless you, your writing is so rich, intense and tight. Flawless rhyme and metre. As always your heart gives so much quality when you, as a person, have given your utmost quantity. Rest well and deep, precious Santa Fee xx Happy New Year when you're refreshed! :))

Fee you will never know how much I felt this poem; that fifth verse was brilliant in it's understanding of the place in life where many of us are standing. Great poem, one of your best.

This is a poem that I can truly relate to. Not so much the gifts, etc. but the emotions involved with feeling to young but too old. When I approached this crossroad in my life, I began to write. You did an outstanding job of sharing your thoughts. Your friend, Kathy

Hmmmmm, alot i dont agree with here, but especially "I feel too old for a rebirth" because you are never too old, and you have a fire inside and your rebirth is there to be grabbed.

i find there is often a "let down" after a big holiday, find your gratitude beneath the waves of downer thought, only you choose how you feel, and can choose to feel anew.

Fee,
POWERFUL, I can feel your sadness. Fee, you are so important to so many, your family, your beautiful grandchilden, all of us here at AD, we love you. I like what Karen says "Poppy" has more pages to write, your grandchildren will be your inspiration. May the New Year bring you more joy than you've ever known, my friend.

Blessings and love,
~Linda

Oh goodness, you sound so down and yet with faith you will find the light rekindling once again. Just a momentary set back as there is far too much living yet to do......
