this is not about me...or maybe it is, this is about you...or maybe it's not, this is about life...or perhaps it is death, this is about reality...or then again...

the poetic jester

His manufactured words reek of life’s hypocrisy

bitter dregs of a pretentious note book fool

mining among his forgotten rehashed syllables

writes poetic jester on his Starbuck’s stool

 

dictionaries, thesaurus, cell phones at hand

mini tape recorder for thoughts in demand

dark spirits groan on Chapter’s Classics shelf

at this plagiaristic eunuch so spell-check grand

 

Beethoven master works in barely audible tones

accompanied by latte machine’s burp and hiss

while constipated waitress force feeds a smile

for a tip the jester offered her a ten cent Haiku kiss

 

then through the electronic doors of reality’s truth

jester rides the number forty nine bus downtown

there in his Wal-Mart pastel tie of social mediocrity

That compliments a paper pushing nine to five frown…

I like reading about reality too Fee, and this piece is certainly about you, me, all of us and about reality, life, death, and more. It seems we write to share our thoughts with others who will read them. But if everyone did read what we wrote, would that make this a better world? Maybe, maybe not, but it is worth a try and so we become the poetic jesters entertaining the ones who do read what we write. Thank you for sharing.

I liked the ten cent haiku kiss. I have started writing for the satisfaction of simple expression. Perhaps I'll grow. Perhaps I'll remain at 8th grade punk shit. Doesn't really matter. Patrick

This is one of your best. It deals with the blantant reality that when you do write about it, it comes alive in your pen. I think many can relate to seeing this type or being this type of poet, and it is always interesting to see the intellectual/philosophical side of you-it suits you. Poetic license isn't the only license JK Rowling took, but that's another story....lol- I don't know about making up words, because it sounds like bullshit, but not this, this is from the heart and soul, and that doesn't need made up or fancy words.

Ahhh Words...Words...& More Words!!!Shakespeare is our cornerstone of made up words! My hero! Talk about “Dare To be Different!”
Also I heard from the Harry Potter series are its Authoresses’ made up words to be added to the dictionary!! YES!!!
And has nothing to do with education! She was a homeless non scholar single mother….Poetic License can enter you into the dictionary & more! Imagine That!! I Absolutely Love Dictionaries & Thesaurus & Worday! And this literary snap of prose in “the poetic jester” who rides off to Walmart Is a Delightful Read!! :)

Fee, I think this is an extraordinary poem that is thoughtful and unvarnished in its truth. Your delivery is excellent and your line construction is some of your finest. Yes, there is some tongue-in-cheek humor that can be gleaned from this poem, but I find it much more melancholy than that. Very nice, indeed.

You'd be surprised how many "Poets" just make up words that don't exist to fool the uneducated into thinking their poetry is classy! Without a dictionary and thesaurus they couldn't write a nursery rhyme. Good one Fee.
