NORMAL

I have looked back on a life that I lived that seemed always slightly out of step with everyone around me...was I normal? Depends on how you define normal I guess.

Poem Artwork

 Normal

By:  Fee

When I was a toddler

I couldn’t keep up

With my older siblings

Not normal they said

When I went to school

I laughed while in line

I got the strap

Not normal…behave

When I wanted a guitar

As a teen I knew

My Dad would not approve

No normal talent he said

I loved country music

My peers all did rock

Strange teen was I

Normal isn’t cool man

I heard the call of the sea

Sailed to the high arctic

Saw the solitude and smiled

Not normal the crew said

I wrote words of poetry

Often hid them between

The disguise of humor

Not normal to be a poet

I wrote my first book

Oh yes…he’s our brother

Won an award

Still not normal though

Wrote a second, third, fourth

 but why aren’t you rich

Scoffs and jeers

You’re just a normal guy

But I learned and I grew

I walked the walk

And talked the talk

I liked not being normal

I lived, I loved,

I laughed, I cried

Was I ever normal?

Doesn’t matter…I was me…

You are so right. Stepping to your own step through life. Rich? Well, you've definitely enriched my life. But the life of a poet/song writer rich financially? You and Rose should be raking it in. You and your work are loved. Liz

We are all special in our own unique way! Just think how boring the world would be if we were all just NORMAL...My son is far from NORMAL and that sets him apart from everyone else. We should be our self and never care what anyone thinks! Being different is the way I want to be, because it is me! Excellent write Fee!

According to Webster's Dictionary to normalize one must:

Bring into conformity with standard; heat (steel) above critical temperature and allow it to cool in the air to relieve internal stress.

Now I ask you, why would anyone want to do that to themselves? :-) I am just not into standard and I am glad to see your not either :-) and who needs the internal stress anyways? :-)

Its fun being different :-)

Awesome! It is so important to be oneself. Shoot I think being my own leader of the band is pretty cool. I get to make the choices!

God bless you. Kathy

And just look how you turned out! I think we all need to find our own "normal" and then live it! Great write, Fee.

DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!!!
stereo type normal is commonality to boring
"fitting in" sometimes means this doesn't fit
being true to our self is so utterly important
& "EFF" the rest whom don't matter. It is a brave person
who challenges to break an implied conformity to be carbon copies
of what they think one should be...so....
Dare To Be Different I say!!
Loving Divesity!!!

I remember the phrase growing up "to compare is odious" yet I think we do it far too often..we are all individuals and what is the norm? you give much for thought Fee~

"Normal" is the control to keep the herds of mundane dwellers corralled my friend -- black and white never made anything wrong or right -- gray was and has always been the norm -- but who cares? -- dayglo orange and yellow, chartreuse and hot pink are the colors of the life worth living -- normal, who cares, who wants , who needs it? -- but different must be by nature and not an affectation -- for then, being not normal has probably cheated a life desperately seeking to be so -- nice work Felix -- peace and love be always with you my friend -- Jon Michael
