An Old Man’s Rant
By: Fee
Cruelty exists in the hands of time, and in the hands of Covid
The world as we knew it, slowed down by an invisible force
Robbing hearts and minds of precious days, months and years
Depriving us of well-earned and deserved golden-year moments
Times we should have being with our children and grandchildren
Hugs and kisses wished for, now forbidden in a new world order
We still try to fool and give ourselves false hope and promises
Painted smiles that this whole thing is only for a little while
That if we wait, things will be better when summer comes
Masked, we watch and wait and with each missed opportunity
Our hearts, minds and souls grow wearier and die a little each day
For us seniors, our diaries are rapidly playing out page by page
Reality is our years of love and laughter, grow fewer and fewer
And although we thank God for all the blessings we have
We still must face the dark clouds and struggle to keep from sinking
into the despair of missing all we once truly treasured…
