A bad dream

Poem Artwork

A Misconception of Eve

An unfamiliar ceiling

top cracked walls

paint peeling

like insignificant flesh

from the bones of faith.

How foolish have I been?

Clinging like a withering vine

to a dream, a wispy shadow,

tentatively grasping at hope,

deluded

when all along it was a noose

at the end of a rope

Only a fool fights on

when he knows he cannot win

and giving up is not a sin.

Once I bared my soul and more besides,

for what?

And yes…sometimes even the Devil cries

Outside the rage of heaven is upon me

exploding electricity excites gases

as rain spatters.

Super sprites, so beautiful, so bright,

dance to the thunderous timpani

in a symphony of destruction.

For I am beyond her now in light

solidified

a statue of unfulfilled possibility

and of what might-have-been,

not worthy of attention,

no longer to be seen.

Struck down, in the searing heat

of realisation

and like the roses

that once filled a heart with love

turned to

nothing more than powdered dust.

Vivid and haunting. The strength { yes, and faith } that
shines through will not allow the
"subject" to let himself reduce to dust!! Ok, we
all do, in time. Hope my meaning is clear. Peace,

Taking the dark feelings of the heart and soul, add to that the electrified and thunderous tumult of a raging storm and you have . . . a damn well-written poem.

Searing and electric, this pulses with full-on heart and soul that is striking, to say the least! Smokin, Paul! Don't know why, but I think about you every time I drive past Stonehenge these days... twice last night, then! This is the kind of sky that is not uncommon up there, no?! And the primaeval emotion to go with it... A high-voltage write, to be sure! LOL Kate xx

Paul,

I agree with the board, this is stunning! I love this stanza:
"Only a fool fights on
when he knows he cannot win
and giving up is not a sin.
Once I bared my soul and more besides,
for what?
And yes…sometimes even the Devil cries"

The whole poem is exceptional in its emotion,
depth and language! I am appluading!

Giving up can be so painful and defeating, but at times, it can be the only way we can survive... excellent write

Always it seems as if your heart lifts the pen out of your hand and commits to the page the truest and most elegant, even when painful, things that you witness or imagine. The poetry thus rendered, as here in A MISCONCEPTION OF EVE, is never anything less than superb in its integrity, vision, and soulfulness.
