Poem Artwork

Dear Readers,

Please enjoy the following poem. I’m happy to announce it is now available in a new book that you may view and purchase if you wish by clicking on The River of Winged Dreams

“The air is filled with strangely human birds.”

––Guillaume Apollinaire, from The New Spirit and the Poets

1.

Your wife calls. Asks me to take your keys,
make you stay here tonight. She refuses
your refusal to leave the world to its chosen pains.

Long ago I stopped trying to convince you
that your hands are not roadside bombs.
Your tears not rapists. Your arms not starving children.

2.
You say you feel like a woman who can’t stop giving birth.
Like a man just discovering he is worthy of love.
Like heat surfing dream-waves of burning cosmic intention.

I consider how the syllables of your soul have never hung
my imperfections from a gallows of public scrutiny
w
hile wallowing in the gigglings of neurotic tapeworms.

3.
Your lines style splendor in cashmere meters.
Your rhymes pulse quasars of quantum compassion.
There is no sacred love your pen will not kiss, pray for, or heal.

Forty-eight thousand friends subscribe to your blog on MySpace.
They are witty with you, get horny too, and sometimes sublime.
But know nothing of the nightmares you puke on my shoes.

4.
At midnight your wife calls again. Says Happy New Year
and she will still love you sometime tomorrow after lunch.
Tells me I am not a bad poet and an even better friend.

At the end of “Auld Lang Syne” you open more champagne.
I take a hard deep breath to scold you for your weakness.
We hiccup at the same time, and hum in harmony as if on cue.

So direct, so forward, so plainly obscure. LOL! I loved the playfulness with which you approached this sensitive topic. You display great caring and understanding in your words as well as an acute insight into the souls of common folks. Lovely piece. Thanks for sharing.

On this surrealistic photo the ontological confrontation is present, – the Poet expresses natural emotions, the wonders of Nature, or serve as an interpreter for what is possible to exist, could have existed or exists around the rational perception through intuition or through imagination.

"A Friend Like A Drunk Poem On New Year's Eve" inspires me to revise my social life, and to serve priorities FIRST.

I salute You, Sublime Poet.

I think that I actually felt dizzy while reading this poem, Aberjhani. Your verses felt like too much wine playing upon my senses, biting at my perception of reason like effervescent bubbles upon my soul. I honestly had to shake my head before reading it a second time. Excellent poem with amazing images that deliver the reader into the moment.
Take care,

Excellent compositin, Aberjhani. A good friend of mine was killed by a drunk driver, about twenty years ago. I still think about him and get angry. His life, a wonderful career and future, were stolen from him because some guy thought it was okay do drink and drive. Thank you for sharing this.

Can't believe this... have just posted a poem about the "Rimbaud of Cwmdonkin Drive", Dylan Thomas, and the supposed earthy happiness he shared with his wife, Caitlin. His myth suggested to me that he was always a debauched old soak, but on a VERY cursory look into his biog notes, he, Caitlin and three children lived a happy, stable and ORDINARY family life. But you paint for us vividly here the flip side of the artistic coin, the experience of so many creative-types whose genius is a product of intense fissured Jekyll and Hyde. My own father was a paranoid schizophrenic and a sectioned alcoholic. I know well the theatre of which you speak, only too real to those of us who have lived the times of "always something to celebrate; always something to drown". If not mine, then someone elses... Acute and multi-faceted, AberJ. May your year continue safely but with as much glowing technicolour. Love and respect, K xx

Author/Poet Aberjhani ...

For some reason Herman Hesse's "Steppenwolf" came directly to mind, specifically the sign that showed Harry Haller that this place was a magic theatre, and that entrance was not for everybody.

Although surreal in its imagery, I believe that your "friend" is real and a source of diversified emotion to you.

"I consider how the syllables of your soul have never hung
my imperfections from a gallows of public scrutiny
while wallowing in the gigglings of neurotic tapeworms."

This is strong, no holds barred, directly to the point language that chills me. Considering the direct reference to MySpace and 48,000 subscribers to a blog, I can't help but think that I am familiar also with this personality type.

I can honestly say that there has never been a writer, poet, musician, actor, or artist, that I have ever opened myself up to that did not impart wisdom, understanding, love, and assimilable imagination back to me.

All the others, the infamous, the substance abusers, the emotionally tortured, the ones that thrive, even prosper, on negativity, the denigrators of all that is good, the manipulators, are as so much jetsam and flotsam on a dung heap.

A powerful and thought-provoking write from an artist whom I trust and admire. Happy New Year!

Light and Wisdom ...
