The pear tree is bearing well this year.
In other days
the fruit has set
and fallen, still unripe.
But the pear tree is well this year.
I picked a pear
from the mat of grass
that clusters about
the dripline;
I set the pear on a handy brick -
because -
I wanted the pear to shine in the sun
so I could take
its living gleam
to use as a homepage background.
I cropped the shot
to a square of green
(cropped the brick away)-
but it didn't work the way
I hoped.
And so -
Here, restored, is the pear in the sun.
I should not have tried
to improve on nature
this time.
