British Isles, Northern
Europe, formerly
druidic, judged too
quick and harsh,
still densely populated
by holy wells, holy springs
pre-Christian water spirit
Melusina, recorded
on pell, pagan sings,

bathhouse and pagan
springs forcibly seized,
return thermal water,
rid impostors disease,
religious frauds steal
poetic landscape,
proselytizing agape,
changing the landscape
"See the Light," gloats
with a sense of triumph
to rid the heathen site,

druidic European trees cut,
sacred groves destroyed
to discourage pagan belief
in tree spirits, Christianized
the calendar, pagan traditions
expressly forbidden, treaders
of grapes at harvest to call out
Dionysus like they had for
centuries long, "Wrong!"
Christian council ordered instead
when each load of grapes were
brought in, treaders cry out in song,
"Kyrie eleison!"

suppressing Yule, Christians in
authority frowned upon what
they called "riot and disorder"
cautioned their flock, "Do not
make vetulas,  (little figures of
old women) or exchange gifts
or supply drinks, soon pagan
wassail and gift exchanges would
become a part of  Christianized
Yuletide, religious stealers order
you to abide, camouflage words
so they think you, Goddess, don't
see they lied,

breath of the crone
Cailleach Bheare,
the north wind,
the ageless battle
between light and dark,
the cyclic nature of life
and the seasons,
bonfire, bone fire
to Wiccans, cast the
bones of slaughtered
cattle upon the flames.
bean sidhe, f*** like
banshees!

Deeply intense meditation on the European side of the evolution of goddess culture to that of patriarchal deity worship. A poem such THE CHRISTIANIZED LANDSCAPE (and a certain popular book) causes the reader to wonder if we will ever be able to make peace with the truths of our religious, social, and political past. Illumination fills these lines much as it does the lovely grail sitting above them. Thanks for the very thought provoking write.

Often the political actions of humanity done in the name of gods, especially "God" as many who claim Christianity promote, usually haunt us with horrors and injustices that a loving Spirit would not condone. So many humans go for results based on what the physical eye sees rather than what the Spirit perceives that the world ends up blinded. The irony in most of what folks have done politically "for the sake of Christianity" is that nothing in the New Testament supports attempting to physically take over the world or trying to force others to believe in Christian doctrine. Involving oneself in the affaris of another in attempts to force tje follwing of any New Testatment practice was frowned on and such people were cautioned not to be "busybodies." Furthermore, the cloaking of practices of other faiths in Christian trappings and vice versa would have been an abhorrent practice to the Apostles as portrayed in the New Testament. In other words, people don't know what the hell they're doing most of the time. They're usually just power hungry and pushing self not genuine faith.

A provocative poem, Sage. ~~Nordette

You go girl, except history is much more dark than this when it comes to religion.
