Gene Autry Bought the First L

The L Word
then in '50-'55
sponsored by
Wrigley's Doublemint
Chewing Gum, later in 1978
when the famous Hollywood sign
fell, Gene Autry bought the first L,
entertainers each bought a letter
for $27,777,77,

original scripts
written especially for
the tv western purchased
from well-known western adventure
writers, Gene studied special filming
techniques, eliminated long shots replaced
with close-ups to give intimacy with the players,
horsemen traveled across the screen instead of
into the camera,

white tones
were emphasized,
dark portions were
kept deep gray rather
than flat black, rugged,
exciting western adventure
with Gene's songs blended
in to the plot, music an important
part of any Gene Autry project, background
music helps set the mood, it's no different today,
we're gay, The Sundance Wives bought the West,
the L word becomes the Ho,

Gene Autry's
cowboy code, ten
cowboy commandments,
which evolved from Autry-related
publicity Nine Cardinal Rules Govern
Production of All Autry Films
ran in the
1949 pressbook for Riders in the Sky; a
natural progression of Gene's philosophies
going back to his Melody Ranch programs,

The Cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man, or take unfair advantage.

He must never go back on his word, or a trust confided in him.

He must always tell the truth.

He must be gentle with children, the elderly, and animals.

He must not advocate or possess racially or religiously intolerant ideas.

He must help people in distress.

He must be a good worker.

He must keep himself clean in thought, speech, action, and personal habits.

He must respect women, parents, and his nation's laws.

The Cowboy is a patriot

and then Sweetwater
evolved taking a different
approach to the Old West,
successful and firebrand,

Judas

Preacher and Frank White
went for a ride that night,
Bible and a deck of cards
in plain sight,

Madam Pearl DeVere
had an ace tucked up her
sleeve, whore's magician
pulled her soiled dove from
Preacher's left-before glove,

Frank White's horse
stumbled, honesty oath
tumbled, in his last breath,
Frank White mumbled, "Preacher,
your glove will convict your sin,
whore knows your breath of gin,"

Next morning, corrupt
tin star moved the "row"
off main street Bennett
Avenue a block over to Myers,
poker faces, jealous wives,
cheaters, and liars, red-light
district born-again whiskey bottles
and brothels, soiled doves went to
church on Sunday to pray, Preacher's
lone glove on the pulpit, Myer's Avenue
where the other one lay burros bray,

I...

Gene Autry was a matinee idol of mine. I liked the way he always got the bad guy but had time for a song. His smile was cute and his manner put you at ease. Gene Autry, Patsy Montana and Smiley Burnette. Give me a song along the sage brush trail. Thank you for sharing Sage.

May the Lord Bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and walk by your side. With love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister Barbie.

Look Away Silence by Edward Patterson

Martin Powers wanted an ironing board for Christmas. Instead, he got . . . Matthew Kieler, a non-returnable gift, but a gift that kept on giving. A powerful tale of survival, compassion and unapologetic love in the time of AIDS.

A (shockingly) truthful autobiography with elements of fantasy, philosophy, and historical fiction.
