Great write, John, and all too true. As for me, I limit the amount of technology I allow myself, my wife and my 14 year old to have to have. The internet and simple cell phones is as far as we go. Our cell phones are for phone calls; PERIOD! No smart phones. And today, sadly, Jon (14 year old boy) has a tablet for school because it is required. I spend a lot of time daily doing things around our property to keep it nice, to keep myself in shape and to maintain a strong connection with all the things God has blessed us with naturally.

I don't have a cell phone and don't feel maimed by it. However, AD is scooping up much of my time to write, and I find that a bit disturbing.

There are people that do �get out there� without all the connections. Although I don't see young people taking a wilderness hike without their cell phones��partly because their parents are so afraid they'll get lost or something worse happen, like reality TV��and will stay connected, texting all the way through beautiful scenery, quiet interludes, sunrise and sunsets� Without noticing. What a shame. They should, like our Mr. Ed, throw off all that techno garbage and just enjoy nature as it was meant to be.

When I go nature walking at the beach, in the woods, or around the Marsh, I leave my cell phone at home. I love those times. On Sunday I plan on taking my grandkids to Thompson Ledges. The imagination goes wild there. Caves, huge boulders, and ledges of course. It's very prehistoric looking. You wouldn't be surprised if T-Rex would come out from behind one of those boulders.

We need a Technology Time-out Retreat where we can leave our cell phones home and there is little radio and T.V.

I seem to need such a Retreat more and more these days, and luckily I've found one in the woods, where I think I will head today with my dogs.
