Appreciation

Appreciation the greatest human want

Because it is so rare

There are many who may rant

But seldom do they care.

The old man came every day

To see his wife of many years

Watching here slowly fade away

He spoke to me through his tears.

I was visiting my own true love

Both our wives in special care

Praying for help from up above

A common pain for us both to bear.

With anguished eyes he looked at me

With breaking heart he gave a sigh

With trembling lips he spoke to me

Words of wisdom from angels high.

Every day they looked after us.

We always took them for granted.

Cleaning and cooking never a fuss

For support ,we never wanted.

Now too late we understand

There is no way to make it up

No time left to give a hand

We did not appreciate them enough.

Words of truth that struck my heart

Regret and guilt overwhelmed my mind

Realizing with sorrow my own part

That I too was not so kind.

I write these words so you will know

Every day to tell your wife

How much you appreciate and love her so

Every day for all your life.
