The original letter is preserved in plastic, and was given to me after his funeral.
Unfortunately, it is undated.

Brother ----,
A long time ago, I was told of
a saintly lady who was bedfast, and that
our class should remember her.
We took a collection and sent a present
to her. Also a get-well card with all
our signatures.
Shortly, there came a return card with
a message that I have never forgotten.
Hope you can make use of this song and
the message of it.
Yours in Christian love,
Robert D. Leslie

*When I found out my Father had an unfulfilled dream, my heart wrenched. I asked if him I might try. He was delighted! However, he passed away before it was finished...It was necessary to slightly edit and rearrange it, but I kept him aware, every step of the way, which he so thoroughly enjoyed. One day, Lord willing, I shall deliver it to the Brother he had in mind, or his descendants, as that church was established when my father's grandparents gave the Church of the Brethren land, on which to build. The Leslie's have the distinct honor of having helped to establish the first "dunkers" in our area of Pennsylvania. These are my Godly roots.

Pass It On
Words: Robert D. Leslie Music: Rhonda S. [Lelsie] Galizia
Fifty years have passed away, but I remember to this day
The kindest words - I've ever heard - this lady had to say:
'When a deed is shown, you pass it on,
When a deed is shown, you pass it on.'
In her heart she believed, that the present she received
Would live on- would live on - would live on - and on -
And on a card she returned, served the pleasures that she earned;
When a deed is shown, pass it on.
When a deed is shown, you pass it on!
It's not meant for you alone
So until in Heaven, the deed's made known
Pass it on...pass it on.
In my life she's been a rock, 'cause ev'ry time that I take stock
I can hear that message oh-so-clear - words that I still hear!
When a deed is done, pass it on, you pass it on.
Up in Heaven, that soul rings out today
Can't you hear the words she has to say?
'Humble be the blessings that you feel;
If you follow them, you will always feel...'
When a deed is done, you pass it on
It's not meant for you alone
So until in Heaven, the deed's made known
Pass it on...pass it on.
2/01/04 Now my father has joined that soul today
I will always hear my precious father say
"Rhonda, it's really true , when good is done to you
Don't keep it for yourself, you pass it on
Don't keep it for yourself, you pass it on!
When a deed is done, you pass it on
It's not meant for you alone
Until in Heaven, that deed's is known,
Pass it on...you pass it on.
*Today ,we have three more generations of Leslie's, who are
proudly passing it on. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, DAD!
miss you ~ love, me.

It is so true - what we have been given must not be selfishly clung too or squandered. We were put on this earth to bless one another, not to condemn one another. We were put here to share the love and wisdom of the Holy One.
It is the act of reaching out, and giving, and loving, and helping that brings glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. Your poem is a reminder about what every believers mandate is, that is to bless one another, build one another up in each others holy faith, sing songs of praise to one another, prophesy to one another, and most importantly, love one another.
I am blessed and honored to be your friend!
Richard
