Sherry, this is for you!

Poem Artwork

Darkness rains from clouds of ash

I watched as thousands of lives went abash.

The day started like any other day as I crawled out of bed

As I turned on the TV hoping for some good news but instead

The news I saw and heard was unexpected.

It was a horrible sight which at first my mind rejected.

I must admit I remember little else about that day

Only that so many lives were gone and the blue skies soon turned to gray.

I remember the first plane which hit the first tower.

I also remember the horror as the second plane crashed in the same hour.

Not only in the same hour but within minutes of the first

There were thousands of lives lost, a terrible curse.

Now the only news anyone talked about

Were the first responders who came with a shout

Of glory for they wanted to help during this horrible hour

When hatred brought down the Trade Centers two towers

Hatred has a very destructive way.

Too well, I recall that day

Hi Lew, This is one period in history one will never forget. Each of us could well remember exactly what we were doing and how we reacted upon seeing the planes hit the tower. First there was disbelief...perhaps it was a Hollywood movie...perhaps...and then panic...! I lived in New Zealand at the time...after realizing what was going on, I tried to phone my family who live in New York...three of whom worked in Manhattan. When I couldn't get through, I thought I was going mad from worry. Oh, yes, that day will be forever etched in the mind.
You have written a touching poem, Lew. Thank you.

God Bless
Lena

WOW, Lew, I am impressed, you got yours up before I even got mine written and posted on my challenge page. This is an excellent post, though the topic is quite sad, as Anita has pointed out. You have done a very good job recalling the events of the day. Thank you for taking part in the challenge. With each word we write, a little bit of healing takes place.
Take care,
Sherry
