I watched a favorite movie of mine yesterday
It stirred childhood memories when we used to say
“Let’s play ball,” and we would head off to the commons and there we would play
We would pick-up sides and our rule was “High fence over” for you see
We didn’t have enough for nine player teams. There were eight others and me
When my turn came to step into the batter’s box I took my stance
I watched the pitcher with interest for the next pitch was my chance
He pitched the ball and I stepped up to swing
To my delight I really hit the thing
It soured off my bat and high into the air
I didn’t have time to stand there and stair
I ran to first base which in our case was third base
But as I rounded first I saw the left fielder run after the ball
He reached up to catch the ball in the air breaking its fall
My friends all shouted, “He caught it you’re out. One away”
No hit for me today. Perhaps another day
Even on those days when my team did not win we had fun
Tomorrow would be another day to have fun in the sun
Do you find you have wonderful memories to cherish?
I pray I will never forget for that is my wish
