Twas the Season

Twas the season without reason,
for the skies were rainy gray.
A three legged frog hopped a log,
into the bass's tray.

The shoppers were a shoppin'.
In the wave, popcorn a poppin'.
the polar ice was a meltin'
polar bears were slippin' away.

The Lions and Saints,
are Super Bowl greats.
While tigers languish in cages,
their Viagra slaughtered in stages.

The trees on the block,
all lit up with color and flock.
While the killing in Darfur rages.
Demons out of their cages.

The star in the East,
signaled a cold, quiet peace.
While the West was embroiled in war.
Will Baghdad become like Darfur?

Three Kings to the manger,
came like a foreign stranger.
Bearing an improvised bomb.
Can we last long?

The stockings were stuffed,
and the plate was overflowing.
While kids in the garbage,
searched to keep growing.

The season was slipping,
into a new kind of hell.
And the revelers couldn't hear it.
They were blind to the bell.

Can't you feel the smell?

Very powerful statement on how so many of us live in a perfect little world of fantasy, while the rest suffer under powerlessness.

None-the-less, Ron, I'd like to wish you a Happy Holiday and a wonderful New Year. Maybe all the badness in the world will one day get washed away by time.

Peace,
Sara

No blame given by me; but you ARE guilty of an interesting Christmas poem. The good, bad and ugly of our world.

definitely can smell the chaos growing ... at times, utternonsense makes sense ...

"Utter nonsense" is an apt description of the current state of the world. The poem may not celebrate the preferred spirit of the season but it is true to the lunatic reality of the times. Splendid write.

"They were blind to the bell" - "Can't you feel the smell" INDEED! Good oxymorons that vividly express the insular and ignorant lives that too many people lead in this country. And everywhere for that matter!

You tie together many things in this write Ron that seem to take on a life of their own. I liked it - and I hear ya!

Light and Wisdom ...

Well, Ron, with or without purpose, I think that you are observing all the craziness that is our world today and among those observations you are seeing many shuffling along as though this Christmas is like any other and all is right with the world. I enjoyed this fine offering, Ron & thank you for the elephant story, you brought a smile to my face and a bit of amaze to my day.
Take care,
Sherry
