Without my trusty Mac, you wouldn't be seeing this. Still, without my voice -operated PC, I'm severely disabled. Read where eMachines have bad power supplies. Microsoft refuses to say it's hardware. Taking it to a shop this week. Have saved my files.
Dead in the Water
“We can fix the problem,” the out-sourcer cheerfully replied.
“Just give me control of your computer to do it.” She plied.
Six techs and a month of Sundays later, she lied.
Old XP, she still crashes mightily, and my work’s on a slide.
My voice file recognizer got compromised and shut down,
My voice file followed suit and left me with a frown.
Reinstalling Dragon NaturalySpeaking only faltered,
Somehow, even my installation disk was altered.
Undeterred, Microsoft deferred to research the problem.
“Please play with your computer until we call.”
The system started giving blue screens regularly,
Today, couldn’t work at all.
Microsoft, the enterprise giant, controls the techie mall.
Selling cheap and licensing deep, they seem above the pall.
Hackers wait in the wings, ferreting out every pitfall.
Programs don’t match, hardware doesn’t attach, no eye is on the ball.
Apple frowns on the enterprise model, only on the goal,
To build a computer that works great, a simple, productive whole.
Linux frees the game board, so re-tired Bill won’t own your soul.
Soon, we’ll all talk to our computers, and Microsoft can go to hell.
Is there anything more frustrating???? Don't think so!!

As for Gates, cheesh!!! I use Windows. . .dunno why. . .and among the many irritations that nag is that "My" business. Kills me!! I put my files anywhere but under "My iss 'r 'at." T i n y problem compared to a kazillion others, but one I can semi-fight.

Ron, your writes always bring a smile to my face because you bring them to life in such an honest manner. I do hope you get your problems resolved because I don't want to miss out on any of your writings.
Never even tried a Mac, though I used to like a Big Mac every now and then...Got an HP laptop with XP and it has been great so far for me...good luck with your machine if you ever get it back...Ed
Of course, we all have our issues with Microsoft, but I will say that without them, every home probably would not have a computer these days. Mac is the best, there is no denying, but for those of us who are used to the lower cost of the MS computers, I am guessing that most of us will not be making the switch to Mac anytime soon. I still run XP on an old and very trusty E-machine that has been basically trouble free for several years...probably not wise to tout it, knowing my luck, it will crash as soon as I sing its praises. I am glad you have a way of communicating, Ron. I often think our disabilities are only as controlling as we allow them to be. You have found ways to do the things you want to do and that is innovative and admirable. I hope your machine will be running smoothly soon. Computers...truly a love/hate relationship.

You may be disabled Ron, but you are an ingenious and creative human being with a cutting (and sometimes arcane) sense of humor. Hey, I just bought (about five months ago) a new Hewlett Packard laptop with the Vista operating system. It's been trouble-free!
Perhaps you should consider a new system. Have the University buy it for you. Tell um that yur doing research on the global ramifications of Iguana hemorrhoids.
Ron, your poem is right on. Computer software and hardware are more often a bane than a boon to users. Microsoft, Excel Lotus, Dell and H.P. have often been asked to go reside in Hades by me. The frustration is unbelievable. May the lords of bit, bytes and algorithms soon offer up some relief for you. May peace find you this day. JMW

This is a great poem about technology. Microsoft had truly taking over. Maybe one day we wont rely some much on computers but it does not look like were getting any closer to that just further more into technology. Good poem. -Te'Erra
