I like the eerie tone that I have created with this play of words.

Fickle Winds of Fate

The fickle winds of fate,
blow of late, my dear, of late.

They are at the gate, my dear,
those fickle winds, at the gate.

You may have heard them coming,
or hoped they would be gone.

You may have dreamed their whispers,
you may have heard their song.

But the winds do not obey our thoughts,
only they know where they belong.

I would not tempt the evil ones,
waiting in the sidelines so long.

For the fires along the watchtower,
have picked up the winds of late.

Sighs winds make in the trees,
foretell forever's fate.

And so we know this but are unable to do a thing about it. It's kinda like something is following you and you know it but you can't see it.
I'm scaring myself to death!

Love ya!

There is an ethereal feel to this, it's as if the trees hush us to sleep while the heart stays awake. I love tender poems such as this. Thank you for sharing. xo

This is a windy poem. You have managed to give wind a presence that is very ghostly and taunting - a presence that seems to be keeping you and your love weary, or it is yours and your loves weariness that is the wind. Somehow, the last lines make me imagine living forever as the wind, and I think it is a lovely positive.

I love the flow of these verses, Ron... ...rhyme and rhythm. Also, the theme is very much "up my alley" as I refer to the "winds of fate" as life's circumstances about which I can do nothing (as stated in my latest poem). Thank you for sharing. Love and peace to you,

Regis

You're right about your poem: it has an eerieness about it. However, the wind is quite capable of doing such, especially at this time of year. Sometimes I sit on my front porch around dusk and listen to the winds moaning and groaning their way along the ridge across the road, rendering the trees powerless against swaying to and fro. Despite these eerie sounds, I still like it, just as I like reading this poem.

Ron - well penned... and quite pensive to boot!

Reminds me of Shades of the Sirens - beckoning wayward
Argonauts toward destruction upon the dagerous shoals.

Not unlike a Landlubbers' version of same. Eerily haunting.

Title also brought to mind the old Rowan & Martin Show -
A parody of their "Fickle Fingers of Fate" !

Never ever - throw Caution to the Wind !

Be Wary of the uncontrollable Forces of Nature ?

As I said - Pensive, Reflective, or Musing !

Peace, my Friend ... ✌️ 😎

Jerry has a point. It is much easier to read on your website, and different somehow. There is a dark element to this poem that I have not noticed before in your other poetry. Interesting. John

Do you really think your poem comes off better with your words so difficult to read? Yeah, I read it. Yeah I like it. No I continue to hate how your words are so hard to read.
