How far we have come in the ability to express ourselves…

Poem Artwork

Tools for Expression Have Changed

Expression

Too many fonts,
king of all wants,
my cup runneth over,
with expression.

With a quill as a pen,
calligraphy was in,
an artwork to leave,
lasting impression.

Body of great art,
grew from the start,
to encompass the world,
with its passion.

Draw from the past,
create what will last,
Google the best,
and add to the fashion.

World of an oyster,
no longer a cloister,
but everyone's grasp,
its own profound lesson.

Computing is now here,
giving everyone new ear,
when it comes to expressing,
unique literary perfection.

So express it my dear,
finger the screen without fear,
until you fulfill,
your life's ambition.

TRUE, TRUE
BUT WHAT CAN WE DO?
THE COMPUTER...
ITS ADVANTAGEOUS TOO
SO WE AS A GUIDE
HAVE TO TAKE 'KIDS' ASIDE
AND GIVE THEM LESSONS
ON THE JOYS OF EXPRESSION
THEN WITH HANDS THEY'LL DRAW
AND BRUSHES WILL... FLY
WHEN PAINTING THIS EARTH AND SKY
THANKS FOR THE SHARE, LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS.

Really loved this poem about the changing means and opportunities to express ourselves. There is a lot in there to meditate on muse on!
Thanks for making this one available, Ron

Penmanship has gone by way of computer literacy, literally. That note we used get in the mail that is "hand written" is now but a lost art. Good food for thought Ron. This gives me fuel for another poem. Thank you!JMD

There is nothing as close to touching someone physically as the written letter. 'Enjoyed.

Love ya!

If cursive writing goes by the wayside like some say it will, I am glad I learned how to do it and hope in my next life I will learn again how to do so. For to write longhand it seems to be more expressive than to just type a word or touch a screen. As always you give to us something interesting & can more than ever be able to relate to, excellent write, thank you for posting it...-e-

Cursive writing has become a lost art. Soon, manual writing of any kind will become a relic of the past.

You expressed yourself quite well on this poem. From drawings on cave walls to texting, the ways in which we can express ourselves keeps evolving. Having said that, I sometimes think we lose more than we gain. My 14 yr. old grandson can not sign his name. He's never been taught cursive hand writing, and his printing is terrible. maybe he'll just start using a mark like those old timers used to do.

My biggest problem is getting past the "duh," part of the sentence.

Now we have come all the way with these computers so that we can "finger the screen without fear," as you say in your poem. Oh the wonders of technology. How I wish I could upload a PDF file of my poems where I can fix in the file my own fonts and style. Then I could "fulfill (my) life's ambition." John

The quill, pen, pencil, calligraphy, computer, typewriter all have been our " expressions,"

Ron ... Well Done, as per usual !

Luv the pic ! Was it the impetus ? Or, vice versa ?

Made me think back to ...
Runes on cave walls.
Egyptian hieroglyphics & The Rosetta Stone.
Cuneiform of the Sumerians.

Then, in our modern age, the little "chicken-scratches"
of toddlers, attempting to write ...

Expressions Indeed !
From Latin - expressio - a pressing out.

Veni Vidi Vici ! Shades of Caesar ?
