Poem Artwork

“Ouch, I have a hang-nail, grandma!”

She wined at me from her perch in the tree.

Then after a bit of thoughtful silence:

“But in a way, that’s good,

Cause since it is my nose-picking finger,

It will keep me from picking my nose!”

“Grandma!” she says as she runs to me after school,

(In an uncommonly serious tone for this normally exuberant girl),

We have to stop driving the car so much,

Especially when we could walk

‘Cause all this driving that people do,

Is making the Polar Bears die.”

Oh, the innocence of youth. Sometimes, children know better than we ever could. Your granddaughter is adorable.

Thanks for sharing her insightfulness, Karen.

We are in good hands, when all those wise six year olds grow up and take over. That is as long as they can hold on to that wisdom ... as long as we don't wipe it clean out of their heads....
