My father died in his sleep last night- My heart is broken, i will miss him

Poem Artwork

How does One say Good-bye?

How does one say good-bye,

To the man who was always their hero,

The man who nurtured their soul,

He who taught them the deeper value in right and wrong?

How does a girl thank the man,

Who set the standard by which,

All men would be measured,

A standard she would hold even herself to?

How does one say good-bye,

To the man who removed slivers from fingers,

Dabbed skinned knees with stinging iodine,

And sealed them all with a kiss to make it better?

She doesn’t say good-bye,

She finds pieces of him in herself,

So much of the best of her,

She owes to him, her father.

How very true. I always was my da's girl and I miss him terribly, but I have so many wonderful memories of us together. His smile, laughter and his jokes he loved to play on me.

You have, you did and you do... and you will always. This poem says it all with the gravitas, dignity and yet heartfelt emotion of the moment. It is also considered and enduring in its expression of true sentiment and feeling. My condolences to you, Karen. It is hard to lose a parent at and of whatever age. I'm pleased you will continue to greet your Dad daily in the bits and pieces of him you see in you - and in others around you. A good father is a gift straight from Heaven itself, and we are grateful. Bless you, Kate xx

Sorry is not a word that will convey the message, but is the nearest one to a feeling for your lost.
Now, from the moment he departed to the day you will to, is to remember all the good things about him, the smiles and the laughs, the scratches knees and sitting on his lap, the sound of his voice and the color of his eyes...and yes, he will be looking at you kid. Forever.

Karen, I am so sorry for your loss, but you've found something to replace that loss as written in your lovely poem--"she finds pieces of him in herself". The influence that our parents have on our lives will always leave parts of them inside of us. This is a wonderful tribute.

Oh dear Karen, I am so sorry for your loss but I do so agree with this poem of love and feelings for the man. I remember back when I lost both my parents and I was trying to find the right words to console my brother. I looked at him and then down at his infant son in his arms and said...they are not dead you will see them in his smiles, his eyes, his voice and in the memories of them that you will share with him. You are so right with the ending of this that they do live on within us forever.

big hugs

Oh Karen I'm so sorry and my friend I do know what you're going through...but Karen, all the things that are causing you pain right now will be the things that give you joy later...your pain is deep for you loved him with all your heart. So it will take awhile for that pain to lessen but it will Karen for the joy of his memory is waiting to burst though...Not Goodbye Karen, for you will see him again...God bless you and your family, hugs and love, Bonnie
