A poem about learning to love an rely on oneself.

A Rose in Darkness

There you are, and here I am.
Thinking of you, it brought me down
Once upon a time you were my world.
Everything in me always craving to be with you.
I always thought you made me who I am.
Then my eyes were opened,
I began see to all the things you were doing to me.
Consuming my inner being
Taking the good, making it bad.
Transforming my smile and making me sad.
Why didn’t you see my pain?
Why wouldn’t you open your eyes?
Over and over again I call out to you, yet no response.
Did it ever occur to you that the things you do could affect my life?
Like a budding rose, I stood in darkness.
Like a budding rose, I stood before you.
Waiting for your rays of light to warm me.
Never did I feel that warmth!
No water to quench my thirst, no soil with which to draw nourishment from.
How could anyone be so cold and unfeeling?

Bloom, I did but it took much longer
Bloom, I did but with such pain
Bloom, I did despite of your lack of concern.

Here I am now, and there you are.
My bud has bloomed and I am standing tall.
The rays of light not your, but still it shines
Warmth I feel, as it embraces my form.
Should I still hold all this anger I feel for you,
Allowing my leaves to tremble and fall?
Letting it eat my insides away?
Who am I hurting, you or I?
Maybe somehow I need to let this be.
The rain it falls and I should permit myself to be cleanse
Somehow, someway I must make ammences
Hard as it may be, break down my fence.
So you go on your way and I’ll go mines
Maybe someday our paths will cross again
With more clarity, I will then make a choice.
If it was meant to be, then your ray will shine for me.
You will appreciate the beautiful flower I have blossom into.
And in the end, maybe we will shine together!

I can relate to this piece, it reminded me of my mother. I did let that anger eat away at my gut for years. Your answer lies within the verse of this wonderful poem, it eats away at your goodness and turns the sweet to bitters. I let it go and forgave and a fresher feeling I have never had! Nicely written!

From time to time the rain must fall to sustain nourishment for our souls; and the rose is of no exception. Best are the ones that can grow strong under such nourishment!

An inspiring write indeed!!!!!
