My son was two when we decided
to go to the drive-in
to watch a movie marathon
with a fireworks display as a backdrop
as parents we were excited
about taking our first child
to his earliest display
shortly into the sky eye fest
we turned around to see his reaction
and our little two year old
was sound asleep
the next day we asked him about it
and he looked fearful
it turns out he was afraid of loud noises for years
we figure it must have scared the crap out of him that July fourth 1977
so much so that
he put himself to sleep
had we traumatized him for life?
the joys and concerns of parenting
now he's the bassist in a band
with our second son
and makes loud noises with a passion
You never know what truly inspires our children to do the things they wanted to do in their lives. I can say that we, as parent, unknowingly take a great part in their decision.
