This really happened to me. Ladybugs congregate on the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan in autumn. This poem was published in I-94 a collection of southwest michigan writers, 1999, 3 am publishers.
Refuge
The beach seagull lovely
surf sand painting the shore
I slept on the sand
washed in wave sounds
and awoke to find myself covered
with ladybugs.
These bright orange insects sought
refuge in me
as if I were driftwood
sand
or a tree.
