Creation of Friendship

Have you ever truly wondered
What ingredients really make a friend
What brings two different people together
An unspoken promise of friendship without end…

Have you ever tried to analyze
What binds friendships together like glue,
What seals the bonds of compassionate caring
To keep the relationship worthwhile and true …

Is it a shared commonality of livelihood?
Is it convenience in a local environment?
Or is it some kinship from out of the past,
Ancestors’ blood and genes recreated and lent--
To the miracle flow of rebirth?

Are the frienships formed in youthful years
More binding than all others might be
Because growing and learning together
Creates a strengthening kinship you see. 

Maybe friendship is a kind of chemistry,
Whatever that’s supposed to mean.
Maybe like hydrogen and oxygen mixing
To form a cohesion that cannot be seen--

Can we compare friendship to water
A mixture of chemicals in just the right parts
Drawing people together in friendships
As they share their lives and their hearts?

Perhaps its just goodness and gentleness
Discovered in the immersion of each other
In  gainful activities shared and pondered
In a loving friendship like that of a brother.

Whatever the glorious secret of friendship
Let there be no careless mistake
Everyone is lucky to have a friend
A precious gift for friendship’s sake.

So guard those friendships with respect
Tender those feelings with care
Be a friend to have a friend
And a friend will always be there.
