Good morning, daddy, I stepped into your room today And gazed longingly upon your picture Taken by the Suwannee River one Sunday
It was in November and turning cold The weather was still sunny with a glow As we walked upon the river’s edge Enjoying the serenity of the water’s silent flow.
I had my camera in my hand As you sat upon an old lounge chair to rest. You looked so much at home sitting there I captured your image with you at your best.
You wore your old fedora One of dozens you’d worn throughout life. Your wind-breaker was one I bought for you And dark pants you wore as you always did.
As I snapped the picture You turned your head toward me Gazing into my face So the blue of your eyes I could see
Now, when I look at your picture You’re still looking into my eyes As though you’re still here with me Triggering memories and sad sighs.
Yes, I said good-morning, daddy, Am I a fool to talk to a picture in a frame? “Perhaps,” some folks might say or think, Yet, I talk to God whom I cannot see, So, like God, maybe daddy is here with me.
THE IMAGERY IN THIS WORK IS SO VIVID, BEING PRODUCED BY PHRASES THAT TOUCH ONE'S HEART WITH BITTERSWEET MEMORIES. WELL DONE AND SO ENJOYED. GOD BLESS AND THANKS FOR SHARING, LOVE,

My Daddy is still with me although he passed on in March 23, 1972. He will always be in spirit. Good poem, you really took care of him good with his clothes and all. we'll meet our Fathers some day in the sky. Isn't that comforting, it is very much to me. Good Morning, this day Aug 20, 2008. Love to read your older writes too. Picking them at random. Love to you today and always, Lois
Oh...I am sure! What a bittersweet picture your picture portrays in your heartfelt words! My daddy always wore a fedora hat too, but now he's switched it out for a Sea Captains hat! LOL! At 83, he's still sailing his yacht!
Aren't daddy's great! No matter how old I get, my daddy, will forever be that man who placed the memories in my head...
Love and Peace~

Jeannette, I'm sure he was listening...you've capture a love here that could never be truly shown in a picture. A bond between a father and a daughter...memories that linger in your heart and mind...a love that was so pure and real. Thanks for sharing a beautiful moment in your life with me...I truly enjoyed it eventhough it hurt my soul.
So very beautiful and very sensitively done. This is a hearwarming tribute to remember your father by. No, there is nothing wrong in talking to photographs, I do it all the time...
Be safe,
Karen

Jeanette, be grateful that you had a daddy to talk to, picture or otherwise. Sadly, many haven't that priviledge . . .
