Portrait of beauty.........

There is a puzzle of an old cabin in the woods I have hanging in my bedroom. It is very old and weather worn, but its beauty comes shining through.....

Poem Artwork

                             Portrait of beauty......

                   A portrait of beauty,
                  suspended from a wall.
                       An old cabin sits
in the middle of it all.

                   A fragrance of cedar
                   permeates the room.
               Rustic furniture stressed,
                  time lapsed too soon.

          Handmade quilts hung with care,
             face a window, curtains torn.
A pump giving water, a basin rests idle,
old wooden table is crusted and worn.

           Played in evening after chores,
a fiddle is hung, brought much joy.
Sweet music once heard, now no more,
filled many a heart with this toy.

                  Wood for the fireplace,
                  piled outside in a shed.
          Cobwebs about, spiders moved in,
old straw in the corner, fit for a bed.

        Gentle light breeze carrying leaves,
            floating gracefully on the air.
Birds, rabbits, squirrels, new home found,
inside this cabin, once had flair.

             Surrounded by maple trees,
            reaching up towards the sky.
                    So plush, so green,
not for us to reason why.

Family life, such a long time ago,
         leaves harbor secrets, yet untold.
At one with nature, animal friends,
of a time, a place, bright and bold.

Oh Karen,
How you make me remember a more simple place and time. It was a time when folks got by with much less, yet seemed to have much more. Good safe food that you grew yourself. Clean water. Friends who took time to help. Family that pulled together instead of apart. Time to be with nature and to marvel at the wonder of it all. A house does not have to be big to be beautiful. Sometimes simple is the best. Thank you .

Karen, the vivid images of the poem appear to be real. Just think if that old house could talk...what tales it might tell us. I loved the way you portrayed this writing...the read was good to the very last line. I truly loved it!!!

O, for the great, great days of yesteryear!

A wonderful verse of imaging filled with scents, sounds, breezes and nature. And a great photograph, too.

The images keep flashing in my mind: Is that the Lone Ranger on his mighty horse? "Hi O, Silver, away!" Or Daniel Boone and his coonskin hat? Or Lincoln studying law by candelight?

A great combination of word and picture!

A portrait of a wrinkled and weather battered old man, sitting in the shadows one summer afternoon, to be seen and no to be spoken, the silence is part of the peaceful picture.
Like that I took the poem and the picture, mixed feelings with moments
