Today we drove our kitties to see the vet for their six month check up. Each recieved a clean bill of health. Oh and a toy....

                             Bubbles to wine........

Today was the day we gathered our three,
kitties that is and all went for a ride.
Inside their cages are paper and blankets,
on the floor litter box, food, water on
                               the side.

Cages are seat belted to keep them in place,
a long ride it is from the house to the vets.
Along the way a rest area we stop,
attach a leash, let them out, they are
                              still pets.

Back into the car, the journey continues,
as they meow and wail all  different sighs.
One begins the other two slowly chime in,
an unusual choir with many lows and highs.

We surely have no need for cd's or radio,
little ones unique blend put us in a
                            good mood.
Before we arrive at our final destination,
stopping once more offering water and food.

Time to get going, it will not be long now,
the five of us arrive at our favorite place.
The kitties are rested, their tummies full,
but a change occurs when they see her face.

Remember those blankets we placed in
                               the cage?
Well all three begin digging as if to hide.
        They commence clawing through the
                              paper first,
to get through to the blanket and
                           burrow inside.

One at a time I take them out of their cage,
trying to reassure them they will be just fine.
As each one begins slowly to calm down,
I can hear that motor purring like
                         bubbles to wine.

Nothing like the kitties purring sounds. so neatly done and so soothing for me to hear my cat Seashore purr. I know she is happy then, How nice of you to really take care of your kitties and get them to vets and all. I would have more cats but small house doesn't allow. Anyway I think she would really be jealous of a baby kitten. she is the queen of my home. **********

lol. My cats scream all the way to the vets. And then after they have gotten their shots they saunter back into their cage and go back to complaining all the way home, where they shoot out of their cages and out the back door as though chased by a banshee covered in the white coat of kindly vet. they would outscream any CD I can think of. So I really relate to this delightful poem about your precious cargo. Enjoyed thoroughly. Liz

Very cust and how precious to care for "the little ones," blankey, seatbelt, toys n' all and share it with such prose. What a loving mom and dad, where did you ever find the time to write this prose with such demanding little ones? Thanks for sharing. My best, Gloria

Karen, A delightful read and one this reader enjoyed because of my love for all animals. I use to sit in my den and watch the love a cow has for her young or a doe as she carefully watches her fawn. Animals bring much healing to a hurting soul...they seem to know when we are suffering. This journey brought many wonderful images and sounds as I read it line after line...thanks for sharing!

Your cat's purring - like bubbles to wine a delightful comparison.
My husband says our cat's purring reminds him on an idling semi-truck, a smooth purring engine. Our kitten likes the vet, she seems to exude cat love, if there's such a thing.

A great feline journey, and, you get to heat their symphony along the way. Just brought Mama kitty back and she , at 18), will not be with us much longer. A great member of our family with a poorly funtioning liver. She is quite a furry gal.
Thanks for this ride on the light side.
My very best
Chris

Ha! Wait til they get older and have made a few trips; you'll have a darn hard time even getting them in the cages (from an owner of 2 "grown kitties") I've been mauled a few; they know what's up! Nice poem on another domestic subject I wouldn't have thought of. Sounds like you live a "heave" from civilization, like me in the Ocala Forest in Florida!

Isn't it strange how they know when it is the Vet , not a happy kitty for sure, I know mine lets me know and sometimes it is a good thing we don't know what they are meowing to us. Thank you for sharing Karen.
