          Share your dreams......

Open the window and let the warmth in,
no rain today, not a cloud in view.
Will anyone notice if I sprawl out up here?
Stretch my legs, yawn and stare out too?

Just a brightly lit day and it feels so good,
even my paws are feeling warm as toast.
Such a wonderful oportunity just to be lazy,
no kneading, no mouse hunts, just sit and coast.

With three other siblings life is never quiet,
running, climbing, but oh, no not today.
On this special day the window seat is mine,
but I see a reflection, someone is coming my way.

Jumping up wanting a window seat too,
okay, okay, I will move over just a bit.
One half is yours, one half is mine,
just to be certain we can both fit.

While all is quiet and the others slumber,
the two of us indulge in quality time.
Cuddle up close and share your dreams,
of what we conquer while still in our prime.

Together we will remember fun times we had,
hide and seek, chasing squirrels, climbing trees.
Anticipating new adventures yet unknown,
to frolic in the flower bed stalking bees.

Hiding slippers and chewing on old socks,
running up and down stairs, opening doors.
Teasing the others, hiding in towels,
dashing about scratching all the floors.

Jumping up on the table when dinner is served,
running off with food before we get caught.
Exploring the woods, hiding in tall grass,
waiting to see what new toys are bought.

Open the window and let the warmth in,
no rain today, not a cloud in view.
Will anyone notice if I sprawl out up here?
Stretch my legs, yawn and stare out too?

           Harold died today 11/17/2009

**Harold belongs to my brother and wife. He was a long time friend, companion and lover of life for over sixteen years. He fought bravely an illness that ultimately took his life and now he rests comfortably in God's hands in the garden of St. Francis, where he can see, run, and frolic forever.

We love you Harold, God bless you always.....

This tribute to Harold is a tribute to your mastery of the art as well. Your repetition of the first verse as the last makes me see the feline circle before they sit.

Hi Karen, I am sorry for your loss. Years ago my writing handle was The Feline King. So I know what you feel for the loss of Harold. Your poem captured the sensitivity of his life and his death.
GOD Bless.

Words so beautifully written with such love and devotion, I enjoyed from the beginning to the end. Yet am so sorry to hear of the loss of Harold! I will keep you and Robert, along with your brother and his wife in my prayers! It is very hard to lose a pet, it really is! yet the Lord will comfort and see you through Karen!

Aren't you curious about knowing what was in God's mind when He created the cats? Seriously, dogs are guardians, protectors, one of the "pack" but cats?! They sleep 25 hours at day, don't come when you call them unless you are holding a dead fish, and look regally at you like a king would look down to his jester. But small kittens are cute cute cute!

I like how you decided to honor him with these warm and happy moments, rather than the sadness of the loss. It leaves the reader with hope of life thereafter. Very sorry for your family's loss.
