The leaf caught
in the wind alone
and on its way to
a last resting place
fluttered  down
to the ground
hoping it could
at last rest
the breeze had
kept it  going
up and down on
a long journey
til now it lay there
hoping it was finally
over and done with
it had been neglected
for so long, but the wind
would not leave it alone
every time leaf
thought it was over
the wind would
show interest
pick it up and
play with it for awhile
then drop it again
as it always did
until the poor
leaf was so tattered
nothing else mattered
it was of no use any more
the wind left it, shattered

It's nice to know there are people out there that also "watch" nature. It's even better when they can write about it as beautifully as a dancing leaf is, whatever the metaphore. Loved it!

I once felt like that leaf, but think how lonely it would be if you didn't take that leap of faith, and open yourself to the winds of change...beautifully said Eileen...a keeper for sure!

To me, the winds are like change, a motivating force. Think of it this way: if not for the wind, the leaf would never know the beauty of flying.

this little poem has thoughts twisting and turning for me, Eileen. I know the leaf, often feel I am the leaf. Yet I love the wind in all its wild wonder. like how you stayed on the narrow focus with this. Dawn

The lonely leaf - tossed helplessly about by the wind. What a great metaphor for life, Tiger Lily - and many are just like that leaf.

I can relate soooooo well to this Eileen. At times I feel like the leaf you are referring to. Just about the time I think I will find rest, here comes another whirlwind to unrest me once again.
Thank You..I'm gonna save this.

See what I mean about the non-religious stuff? Pleanty of comments here on this fine poem, but hardly none on your "faith-based" article.

A beauty of a different class!!

Love the picture of solitude...sometimes the way I feel...pink but still bloody lonely...facing a rock solid nothing...you know what I mean huh?!!

What a joy to read this poem. From the start to the end I was laughing and the intensity of the laugh was changing with the rhyme of the poem. This is like standing in front of the mirror of truth and watch yourself being battered by winds of time. It is a bit ironic to imagine yourself undergoing such a cruel harassment but the way you captured and portrayed the situation is excellent and exceptionally powerful. Thanks Eileen and GBQ.

A very fine metaphorical write indeed Eileen
We should never let anyone toy with our feelings, not even the wind !
I hope and pray that you are alright
The tree in the wilderness picture, sums up your inner feelings

:) The wind's game, indeed! Yet, would you bind the wind into one form? Some are shattered, some are formed. You've given us a choice, Eileen, I love that ability of a Poet!

till next year,
new leaves will come don't fear,
rufuz loves to roll in the leaves,
I find them in my bed, on the floor,
and attached to my pants, never here a bore...ed

Eileen,

I could follow the path of the weary leaf wanting rest, only to be toyed with by the wind...kind of like cat and mouse...worried to death, perhaps? Well done, excellent imagery in sparse, succinct verse. BRAVA!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
