I Watched & I Cried As You Grew
I watched you when I was afraid,
To let let you play alone,
I worried as I watched,
That you may stray from home.
I cried when you would hurt,
For I wanted to take your pain,
And pave a clear and crystal way,
For you'd have only health to gain.
I stayed awake night after night,
Just to watch you peacefully sleep,
And through the darkest hours,
Into your room I'd creep.
I felt I had you on borrowed time,
For you were perfect in everyway,
How could I hold on to someone,
making you a part of my everyday.
Years have passed by quickly,
My son, oh how you've grown,
Today you have a wife and family,
A new life of your own.
I no longer watch you as you sleep,
I no longer kiss your hurt away,
But you'll always be my precious child,
My love for you will never stray.
I'll always be your mother,
And you my little boy,
You'll always be within my heart,
Forever bringing me joy.
"You'll always be my precious child" is absolutely a tear-jerking line. I'm so thankful that my boy and my girls are my closest friends, now that they are grown and bringing up children of their own.
Thanks for sharing this, Rose!
Love,
Connie
This write really hits home for me, especially the very last two verses. My Mom has passed on and I'm almost positive she did the same with me as you did with your son. Every time we went somewhere together, she'd introduce me as her "boy." Now that she's gone, I miss those comments. Excellent write, Rose.
Peace,
George
My little girl is in her thirties and a mother and wife and I still worry all the time about her and as you said keep an eye on my granddaughter as well. Parenting is not a lifetime committment to the child but a lifetime committment of ones own life to love, cherish and nurture as long as we draw breath. Lovely write dear Cuz.
