The one time of year we all are equal and it doesn't matter to our age as we are all out for fun and fright. Be sure to have lots of treats on hand and take them serious as they shout out TRICK or TREAT, some of those kids don't think of the danger that comes with some of their pranks.
Have a SAFE and Happy HALLOWEEN.

Around Another Corner
October 26, 2009
Written by: Rose Marie Rideout

Do you see them as they get nearer,
Do you hear them, what a shrill noise,
Can you feel them, their breath so close,
No but you shiver at the thoughts of a ghost.

Can you see the shadow, getting closer,

Do you feel the coolness of death,
Can you hear the crispness in the air,
Just around another corner is another scare.

They all come out this time of year,
Dressed in costumes, good and bad,
They all want to enjoy their Halloween night,
Some get nervous with a ghostly fright.

There are withches, ghosts and clowns,

old men and ranchy ladies of the night,
Angels, devils and doctors too,
Mad savage animals to mention a few.

Best stock up on Halloween treats,
For the good and the bad out roaming the streets,
Best have something when they scream out “Trick or Treat”
You’ll never know what’s around another corner to meet.

Halloween another special time of the year,
When children of all ages dress up to scare,
Laughing and loving every minute of the night,
As they themselves get the biggest fright.

Graveyards seem to come alive,
Everyone takes on a different personality,
As we look at each person passing by,
To see if this is a costume or a reality.

Love the lightness of tone here, given the subject, Rose! You capture the festivity of Halloween well and I love the twist in the final verse. Nice, tight rhyming structure which beats out the rhythms well... bippity boppity boo! :)) xx

Happy Boo! Day to you, Rose. Karen and I are going to some area churches to help with their Harvest Festival: kind of a safe alternative to trick or treating. Used to be you didn't have to worry about the kids; now it's the adults you got to be wary of, what will they do to the kids? Sad. But this is how it used to be, when I was young: thanks for the memories. =] Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Rose, can you imagine the delight of Mr. Scrooge on Halloween? Waiting for the little dear to come to a big bowl filled with candy?

Georg

PS. I know, I am bad. (LOL)

Well done, Rose. You mix the fun and the fright in an intriguing way. The last two lines are my favorites because of the way you suggest that it's hard to tell costume from reality with some people.
For me, you can take out all the fright and ghastly costumes and keep the pretty, cute or funny ones.

Aw, Rosie. Where I live I never have witches, ghosts and clowns,
old men and raunchy ladies of the night, angels, devils and doctors too, and Mad savage animals that come knocking at my door. First off, my neighborhood is what is termed "a bedroom community" and there are no children that come a-knocking on Halloween. but your poem did send shivers of freight running up and down my spine. However, if you wouldn't mind, could you please send me a raunchy lady of the night.
Your friend; mark

I have to admit I was surprised when I first read it, I thought it was going to be something completely different from Halloween. But all in all, it was a good poem. I thought that there was concrete information, like the different outfits, what types of outfits, what you should do while leaving an opening for you to think what would happen if you didn't do it.
