Have you ever stopped to think of how easy it is to tell so much about a stranger. Here goes.

Getting to know you
April 29, 2010
By Rose Marie Rideout

I stand in the line up,
As I notice the gentleman in front of me,
He's a married man,
His ring is plain to see.

He must be a new Daddy,
For I see the Baby food in his cart,
Looking at his items that he's buying
Would indeed be a great start.

He has some toddler treats,
I guess he has another,
With that little bat and ball,
I'm guessing it's a brother.

Lawn seed sits below his cart,
So I know he lives in a house,
Oh,Oh there's a few traps,
Looks like he may have a friendly mouse.

His hands seem to be rough and dry,
Cracked from his hard day,
I think he works long hours,
To bring home a decent pay.

He looks about thirty years old,
Just starting off in life,
and she's home with the new baby,
As he runs arrands for his wife.

There sits a hardhat,
Tucked underneith his arm,,
So my guess is he's in construction,
With the feed,he probably lives on a farm.

He was just a stranger,
A few moments ago you see,
But standing here with an interest,
He's become very familiar to me.

If we observe, really look around, we will discover that strangers are not that strangers at all. Good observation!

Wonderful, down to earth piece and very true. We can learn much about another individual by the items they purchase. This stranger sound like a good man and a life of memories ahead to make...

Be always safe,
Karen

Dear Rose, A human being cannot be a stranger if he can relate to us and we can relate to him. I always say to myself that no one is a stranger, as everyone is a messenger to us, if we pay attention. Love Emile

I can so identify with this, Rose, the voyeur I am, no, not creepy, just insatiably nosey...people and behaviour watching is one of life's great pleasures.

I love poetry like this, Rosie. I'm sure that you've read my "Fifty-Eight Years Having Past". One never knows who is standing before you, or behind you in a line. Me, I'm a very friendly type that loves, sometimes to the embarrassment of Bonnie, I love kibitzing with people that are in line with me. I did truly enjoy this one, Rosie.

What an interesting poem! I too, am someone who tries to be very aware of what's around me. You sure are an observer and I like that. Thanks for sharing your observations.

Peace,
Dayvid

As you know I love to people watch too, mind you my favorite spoet is Starbucks/Chapters where I can sit back with coffee and laptop and often make note of interesting characters for my work. Now though, I will no doubt read more in the supermarket line ups thanks to this descriptive write. Great visit today Cuz.

Yes Rose it is true you can learn a lot about a person by his shopping cart items. I like to do it here also. By reading someone you get a good idea of there personality. I liked this piece allot.

GOD BLESS YOU

Dear Rose,

As am avid people watcher I fell in love with this poem. Life is much more fulfilling when we're aware of our surroundings. Sadly we're often trapped in our own thoughts of our own lives and miss so much. This immediately became one of my favorites of yours.

California Hugs,
Marcia
p.s. The birds are singing, the sky is blue, the sun shining, the air warm; it's a beautiful day. Hope yours is the same.
