I watch the heavens
Everchanging,
Dawn to day,
Day to dusk,
And reflect
Upon the seeming sameness
Of my life;
There have been changes
Through the years
Yet
The essentials
That define my life
Remain unchanged:
The aloneness,
The march toward
Aged anonymity.
It frightens me,
The future
That seems to await me.
I try to change course,
Yet the days,
Weeks,
And months
Become years
With alarming resoluteness,
And I am helpless
Before the onslought.
