Sweet spring breezes
Tease the hair
From my face
As I step into
The gentle sunlight,
And the sounds of birdsong
Lift my heart
As I make my way
To the creek's edge.
New leaves rustle,
Greeting me
With nature's sighs
And laughter,
And I smile in return
As I lean back
Against an ancient elm,
Watching the daffodils
That once surrounded
The old homeplace
Across the water.
They dip and sway
Before the westerly winds,
Seeming to issue
An invitation
For me to join
In their dance,
An invitation taken up
By the new foals
Frolicking in the fields,
And soon
I am laughing
At their antics,
Joy carrying me
As I skip
Among the trees.
