O the blessed warmth
Of a bright spring day,
So welcome
After a long winter!
Daffodils line my walk
And the scent of hyacinth
Lingers on the air
While the singing birds
Announce their return
From parts unknown.
I absorb the rich experience
Of nature's rebirth
From my comfortable seat
In the old porch swing,
Ignoring the occasional urgings
Of my practical mind
To begin my seasonal cleaning.
After all,
There will be time enough for that
When the rains fall
Or when the temperatures climb
And I take refuge
In the air conditioned confines
Of my house.
For the moment
I am content to bask
In the newness of the days
And I am thankful
For the glory of nature
They reflect.
