And there you were,
The object
Of my every
Desire,
Striding confidently
Into a room
Filled with robots
And yes-men,
An individual
In a sea
Of sameness,
A leader
In a land
Of sheep.
Where have you been
All these years
That I've been looking?
Why have we
Never met?
I watch you
With a lifetime
Of longing,
Wondering to myself
How best
To approach you.
Should I be bold
And frank
With my admiration?
Or must I
Tread carefully
Through these unfamiliar waters?
And as I stand,
Uncertain of myself,
I watch you step forward
Into the arms
Of a beautiful woman,
I witness the passion
That comes with reunion,
And I catch the flash,
The fire
Of matching
Wedding bands.
Then,
Squelching a cry
Of primal denial,
I turn away
And brutally extinguish
The newborn hope
Within my heart.
