Sitting here quietly upon my bench
I watch the children happily at play,
Then to my ears comes the chirp of a finch
As it spats with a bold and boisterous jay.

As mid-day bells ring out from a steeple.
Beneath a tall oak on weathered tables
Old men plot moves on bi-colored boards,
All the while they're swapping oft-told fables
About lives past and the present discords.
And here, amused, upon this bench I sit
With life I find I'm happily content.
