We are all beginners in one form or another. What drives you to want to write. I love to simple express myself in another way besides speaking. Not all the time do I get personal satisfaction or good feedback but when I do it's really rare and very special. I never made good money by writing. Then again, 98% will not be successful as career writers. Just be content that you are able to express yourself by simply writing.
Here's how I see it:
Writing for recognition is narcissism.
Writing for money is prostitution.
Writing for yourself is agony.
Writing for fun is nuts.
Writing because you have to is painful but justifiable.
You could kill someone. Seriously, getting published in a place where people read is often a matter of happenstance. However, a few famous authors that I have heard about often struggled with getting published and spent most of their lives writing advertising, speeches, doing editing and other work just to put food on the table.
I find your writing quite good and you should be recognized. That advice about spreading yourself thin over the entire spectrum probably is good advice. The more you are seen in the media the better chance you will have the kind of recognition, self-promotion if you will, that you need to become one of those “established” authors that gets picked up by publications because of your name.
