Sitting here at home,
With a cat
In my lap,
And fingers
On the keyboard,
I'm doin' my part
In this pandemic
To keep spirits up
And body's safe.
There are many
Who are doin'
What they can
Without risking
The getting
Or the giving
Of infection.
We are
A silent army,
The support staff
For those on
The front lines.
It is up to us
To help keep
Our common enemy
At bay,
Giving those
At the front
The time
And the space
To do their
Vital jobs,
Which are
To treat
The unlucky
And to find for us
The hope
And the means
For the enemy's
Eradication.
We are a silent army,
The many who choose
To do what is right,
And we must remain
United,
We must stay strong,
For us all.
An apt and timely write, Rebecca. These are "unsettling" times to say the least. I do respect and admire front-line workers. Stay safe, Rebecca. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,
I am grateful for those at the forefront of the fight. Suppressing the impact and policing citizens who may be thinking that it won't bother them one way or the other.
Perhaps, poets can provide a little levity, like yours, asking us all to work together as though we are in a war.
But I'm concerned that our president, under the War Powers Act, will suspend elections and use his commander-in-chief status to garner another term as president because of his immense knowledge and competence over the matter.
