It's a privilege and an honor to publicly read poetry written by my dear friend Victoria McColley. In my 80th year, I think it comfortable and fitting that I recite the earliest poem this great artist shares with us in her postings on Authorsden.

Days of Old
I stumbled upon a chest
full of treasures gems and gold...
Locked within a loyal devotion
honoring the days of old...
I held the secure lock of promise
it opened within my hands...
In vows to love me forever
with royal servant commands...
I sat with my disbelief
how something so good to be true ...
Then a wave of realization whisked upon me
and it was then I knew...
I was looking at a treasure
of gems and gold upon this chest...
Belonging to another’s heart
from days of old that will not rest...
Everyone of us must have a chest full of treasures of happy, sad memories and of fulfilled and unfulfilled dreams. So marvelous of Ms. McColley to put them beautifully in a poem. Thank you, Richard, for introducing me to another wonderful writer as you.
Don't know how I missed this one, Richard. This one has a touch of melancholy that is not resolved by the ending. Maybe it wasn't supposed to be resolved--and was meant to leave the reader wondering about the box, it's owner, and the hearts mingled thereof. A touch of mystery lingers on.
Loved this my friend, just read one her poems, it was very compelling. You pay a beautiful and worthy tribute to her my friend. Two great poets...enjoyed.
