you learn how to gracefully accept
being stared at without becoming vain
for you instinctively understand
it’s God’s splash of bright color
that naturally draws the eye to fire
you are like an open flame in a dark world
of mothmen, some simply admiring the candlelight
others who secretly burn with desire
to warm in your obvious inferno
and to see if your drapes and carpet match
there’s a price for being red haired and mature
you learn to accept the disappointment
in the unlined faces of very young men
when they tap you on the shoulder
in the starbucks line, then realize
when you turn to face them
that you aren’t as young from the front
as you appeared in your jeans from the rear
there’s defintely an art to being red haired
you learn to live with the clichés
about hot temper, fiery passion,
you even learn to use them to your advantage
My youngest daughter has red hair
and it is simply beautiful. Gorgeous

world of mothmen'.. fantastic line!

"when they tap you on the shoulder

when you turn to face them
that you aren’t as young from the front
as you appeared in your jeans from the rear" Hey, La Belle, if this is happening to you, it is a major compliment. Wrinkles are battle scars, but if you still have the look of a younger woman in jeans don't knock it! Yup, you are a redhead, my friend....a smart one indeed. Great poem. Lydi***
kind of coincidental my dear poetess that we are both on the red thing today. I love red, nothing like a woman in a sexy red dress, or Belle with red hair and her tight jeans. Don't sweat the young guys, I'm sure that rear view makes up for the age factor Belle. hugs
Red heads do take you on a trip to Leprechaum's country where Erin will soothe the air with her magical harp.
The art of being red is to have everybody over the embers of desire.

I love red hair: so much so, I (tried) to dye my brunette hair "Reba Red": came out violent orange-ish pink!!!!!!! Back to brunette...some people have it made. LOL Enjoyed this one, well done, (((La Belle)))!
