Another Day To Miss You

Poem Artwork

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I Can't Go Home
By La Belle Rouge
The sky is gray today.
The lake mirrors its indifference.
No breeze to lift muddy waves
or sway the Spanish moss
in oak trees outside my window.
It’s hot and muggy, sultry....
like Southern days often are
and it’s lonely, for a displaced heart.
Homesick is more than a state of mind.
It starts but never stops in the mind.
It ends with tears in the heart and eyes.
Keep those tears to myself,
useless to complain, no I can’t go home again....
And I’m missing you, Virginia,
like a lost child yearns for her mother.
I miss your mountains, blue and green,
their fallen boulders, tall pines,
cotton clouds that kiss their summits
and narrow, winding roads that traverse them.
I miss your red clay fields
and the fragrance of your apple orchards.
I long to stand, without a coat,
in your deep, drifting December snow
then to read a good book, curled up
beside a roaring fire in the fireplace.
I miss your muddy James River
that ambles down to your Chesapeake Bay.
Oh how i miss your sea gulls
and the way they ate bread from my hands.
I long to hear the accent of your people
that matches my own
and makes me feel...at home.
Today is a sultry gray day
in the Deep South...
Another day of elongated i’s and y’s
of elegant gardens, Spanish moss
and treasured traditions I’m not part of.
Another day of trying to fit in.
Another day to miss you Virginia
and to wish I was home.
Oh my, what an absolutely gorgeous poem.
I miss home myself, the memories of The
Chesapeake Bay, fishing with daddy. My
own memories came flooding home while
reading this heartwarming desire to go
home. Virginia is a lovely state ..
Love,
Katherine
I spent four years there, Belle, and you capture her so well. Thought I might spend some more... and you never know just where life might take me...but home, well, home is where my heart is.
Love,
Taylor
Homesick is more than a state of mind.
It truly is - home truly is where the heart lives, and your heart shines here, La Belle.
When we are in the heat we certainly do miss the winter ;-) There are many places I might live in and have lived in, but a part of my heart will always be in Ontario. Excellent write; makes me want to take a trip to Virginia to check it out :-)
