it was broken, old and torn
didn’t work right anymore
she was tired of hurting
and completely sure
that it was time to fold it
and put it away for good
he was gone now
and she knew that she should
roll up that overused welcome mat
not giving a second listen
to contrary thoughts about that
she woke up sane one morning
and at last she realized
that having lost again at love
had cut it down to size
it wasn’t big or strong enough
to love anymore
so she’d just fold it away
after she’d locked the door
and the key, well that key
she couldn’t find and she knew
when she left, it was left behind too
he has the key to her wounded heart
she knows he’ll never use it
and that’s why resolve must start
a heart is a terrible thing to waste
but wine of regret is bitter to taste
she chokes back tears, faces her fears
folds away a cold heart once afire
and if she could she knows she would
burn her dead heart on a funeral pyre
There are bits of us that remain in every situation which has had and held us completely, both good and bad. When we take the very brave step of deciding to move up and on, we have to perhaps walk away from that emptiness with every faltering footfall, and yet, as we do, maybe a new heart and soul takes root and begins to grow within us, strengthened by every new breath and shaped by each fresh experience. Beautiful poetry, La Belle. Funerals are for the beaten flesh but the Phoenix spirit will always arise. The hardest part is always the honesty and the truth required to become sane. Better the Sage's Brave New World than the Fool's Paradise. TY and Bless you, Kate xx
I feel, know and understand your pain, Sweet Sissy! We will survive, we always do, don't we. We will always be there for each other to pick up the pieces of each other's hearts! I LOVE YOU! Sissy

Maybe change locks, and find another to give a new key too....
Profound, never to lose heart though...
This is so full of emotion and truth. I really love this one.
As another on this said said, It's better to have loved, than not have loved. We learn and grow from each experience, good or bad, but we shall survive and become stronger people. Hang in there, it will get better and next time, it will be better!
I met Jerome on a busy city street in Baltimore, Maryland, when he was forty-five years old. On that particular day, I was out and about, enjoying a much-needed day off from work.
I wanted to purchase a sukiyaki sub. I parked my car in an area of
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
