Of Lovers

i write of the lovers
in warmth of present breath
their veins filled with crimson fire

or ages past now turned to dust
fair faces and clasped hands

i write of those ones who lay
lasting, deep foundations
and build high, reflective walls

those lovers whose words
live, immortalized on tablets
penned with angels’ ink

and whose love songs
bring smiles to aging lips

i write of rendezvous
in dewy gardens
or wild, wave-kissed shores

of wildflower meadows
or warm hearths on snowy nights

of verandas and four posters
where echoes of paradise sound

i write of the lovers who set afire
the forces of nature
kindled by a touch or a kiss

i pen the pain and passion of lovers
too celestial and warm for a cold world

and as i write of them
my heart rests peacefully and well
in the tight embrace of yours
