Sometimes The Roses Can't Wait
By La Belle Rouge

a sad day, a phone call
sent me to hide in that secret place
deep inside my soul reserved
for tears i would never shed
in front of anyone

a blistering day, steamy hot
but the roses couldn’t wait
they’d die if we didn’t plant them

my hands immersed in the rich dirt
a sense of peace and wholeness
back to the rudiments of survival

one magnificient flash of lightning
one startling boom of thunder
and the skies opened wide

we were soaked to the skin
by the time those roses were
safely in the ground

drenched and laughing loud
like two naughty children
playing in the cold pouring rain

you ran the hot bubble bath
poured me a good stiff drink
climbed in the tub behind me

your arms slipped around me
and i remembered the way
i used to ache for them

and i remembered the feel
and taste and scent of you
before the years and tears

then my tears fell, as furious
as the rain beating against
the roof and window

for hours we touched, loved
devoured, like two starving sailors
adrift on a stormy sea of lust

a rekindling of what might have been
premonition of what might still be
an unforgettable moment of joy
planted forever in my heart’s garden
because sometimes the roses can’t wait

This is so moving Belle, it captures so many wonderful emotions and offers them to us like a ballad of life. These memories are ones only two who really love can share.

And the water didn't get colder but warmer with every every finger, with every kiss on a wet naked skin; not lust but a languid mood of comfort and wellbeing...yes, the roses couldn't wait.

Awesome. Full of full feelings and clarity that sent me into that garden and my hands into the soil. And the bath afterwards was the icing on the cake. Your poem hooked me from the beginning and didn't let go. A masterpiece. Liz

Awwww, thoughts of a sweeter time brought forth through the window of the memory. Indulging and loving as only two could do, so heartwarmingly beautiful. We are outside often with all types of gardening and there have been a time or two when we ended up sitting in mud from slipping and laughed and giggled like we were fifteen. Those are always good times to remember and savor....

Be always safe,
Karen

Beautiful shade of roses shown here. Tropican orange it seems to me. Like the peace roses, yellow with pink tinged edge. Once entered a lavendar rose grown by me from my garden that was in past and won a 2nd place ribbon. Was so happy that day. Roses do bring memories of good times to me.
