to ease the pain you bear
to light your loneliness?
dreams, yes we have
shared a few, memories
engrained in our souls
these things will always
belong to us across miles
and beyond all our todays
if it brings any comfort
I am more than a memory
I’m flesh and blood willing
to nurture and care for you
with an intellect that wants
to challenge yours, perhaps
in ways that bring you joy
I'm more than just yesterday
more than then, back when
love was in word and touch
I'm more than secret retreat
to escape your present pain
I am as real as your heartbeat
as close as your thoughts
as caring as you will allow
for it is the you of today
who still calls to my heart

Our yesterday's and our today's, sometimes we manage to mishandle both of them to the extent we must try to justify our sorrow in unusual ways. To know where your own hear is and trying to explain that to someone else who may be confused is sometimes a difficult, nay impossible task. I liked this.
