the hospital bed was stark and cold
dark and lonely was the night
everyone dies young or gets old
but she won’t…. without a fight
all expire sometime, somewhere
but she defied the then and there
there were things yet to be done
before that good night begins
more snowy nights, days in the sun
before her existence here ends
considering those she loves on earth
both sons to whom she’d given birth
to find rest at last could blessed be
and she entertained the thought
of shedding burdens, suffering ceased
when the fight had finally been fought
if of God's children love be the test
she had kept the faith, earned her rest
the hospital bed was cold and stark
and seemed it would be the end
of sweetest song of a morning lark
a life ended before it could begin
but work undone she stayed a while
in face of adversity still hoped to smile
underscoring this work is resolution
expressed with care and tenderness
and great understanding of frailty...
and as Christine says there is light;
you are a thoughtful soul, Belle, and a fine poet
An intimate poetic unfolding, and somehow it feels as if light is written into the poem by this hauntingly resolute and beautiful voice ~
Blessings,
Christine xx
I sure hope this isn't biographical, having had a similar experience recently. I think we do have choices when we are in that position to either move ahead or in the fight right there.
